.About CremationSo, you think you would choose cremation instead of earth burial. Cremation has become more common of an option in the recent years. Cremation simply means we probably won't be going to the grave following the ceremony. You can have visitation and funeral service with the body present, or you may chose to have a memorial service following the cremation. Again, options are endless as far as the memorial service and the final place for the cremains. Cremation takes place after 48 hours from the time of death. A signed death certificate is required before cremation can take place. The actual process of cremation takes approximately two to three hours. Ashes weigh several pounds. The ashes come back from the crematory in a temporary container unless the family knows immediately that they want to use a decorative urn. Some families choose to keep the urn in their home, or to place them in a niche in a mausoleum. They family may choose to bury the cremains or to scatter the ashes. Ashes may be divided among family members, placing them in jewelry or in small keepsake urns. Family members are limited only by their imagination when it comes to memorialization. Cremation is an option at the time of death that more and more folks are choosing. Cremation instead of earth burial is an alternate form of disposition. The body may still be present for a memorial or funeral service. Or the ashes may be present instead. Many families choose to have the cremation take place and then later have a memorial service as a tribute. They may display pictures, use a video as a tribute, set up a display of favorite mementos, or any combination of memories that the family would like. The only difference is that the body is not present. |
