Ray Ernest Luther

Ray Ernest Luther, 90, Clay City, IN, passed away at 12:45 am, March 22, 2008.

He was born May 17, 1917 in Clay City, IN to Ernest and Nora (Greenwell) Luther.

Ray attended Clay City High School and graduated in 1937.

Ray worked for Peabody Coal building coal tipples in many areas across the United States. He retired from Peabody Coal as a superintendent after 42 years of service.

Ray enjoyed woodworking, growing roses and visiting his friends at the Clay City Ford Dealership. In his younger years, Ray also enjoyed breeding, raising, and selling registered Boxers. During his later years, Ray enjoyed traveling across the country with his friend Lillian and her son Carl.

He was also a member of the Clay City First United Methodist Church, Clay City Lions Club, Clay City Senior Citizens, Clay City Masonic Lodge, and the Terre Haute Scottish Rite Chapter.

He was preceded in death by parents Ernest and Nora (Greenwell) Luther; wife Norma (Duncan) Luther of 42 years; son Conrad Luther; siblings Bill Luther and Marilyn Brown.

He is survived by daughter Jana Lee; grandson Sean Harris and wife April; great- grandchildren Samantha and Taylor Harris; very best friend of 24 years Lillian Graves and son; sisters Phyllis Hausfeld and Moyne Hall and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral Information

Services will be at Clay City First United Methodist Church, Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at 11:00 am with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City, IN, Tuesday, March 25, 2008, from 4-8 pm. To light a candle in his memory visit www.frenchfuneralhome.com.
