Elizabeth Maurey, 83, of Brazil, died March 2, 2010 at the Exceptional Living Center of Brazil. She was born July 17, 1926 in Clay County to Roy E. and Hazel A. (Blair) Haddon. She graduated from Staunton High School with the class of 1944. She trained for a time at Indiana Business College and gained employment at McMillan’s Sporting Goods in Terre Haute as a bookkeeper. She married Walter J. Maurey July 31, 1948. Together they built, owned and operated Maurey’s Tastee-Freez on the East edge of Brazil from 1953 to 1982. She and her husband Walt enjoyed traveling, making annual visits to Florida and also the Smoky Mountains. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. Elizabeth was a former member of the Asbury Methodist Church and later Epworth United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Hazel Haddon; husband Walt “Jr.” Maurey; sons: Jeffrey Scott Maurey and Robert Kevin Maurey. Survivors include her son Ron Maurey and wife Julie of Brazil; grandchildren David Maurey and wife Mikki of Columbus, IN, Elizabeth Maurey, Rebecca Maurey both of Brazil, Robert Maurey and Tyler Maurey; great-grandsons Aidan David Maurey and Collin Brant Maurey; former daughter-in-law Jody Green; brother Roy Gayle Haddon and wife Delores of Reelsville, IN; a niece Linda Pell and husband Bryan of Brazil, and a nephew Larry Haddon and wife Karen of Reelsville. Funeral InformationServices for Elizabeth will be at French Funeral Home, Friday, March 5, 2010 at 11:00am with Pastor Mike Goss officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 5-8pm.
