John Edward Braden Sr., 89, of Brazil passed away at Southwood Health and Rehabilitation in Terre Haute, following an extended illness. John was born in Brazil, May 12, 1922, the son of Clarence H. and Buelah (Combs) Braden. He served in Germany, Italy, and France, in the United States Army, during World War II. He worked for Arktex for 20 years and Otto’s Gas also for 20 years as a delivery driver retiring in 1987. John enjoyed working on lawn mowers and small engines. He also enjoyed square dancing and macramé. In his younger years John was an avid small game hunter. John was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127 and a former member of the American Legion Post 2 and the Masonic Lodge in Brazil. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Helen (Schweinberg) Braden; brothers Clarence Braden, Raymond Braden, Jay Braden and Luther Braden; as well as two sisters Sarah Gerber and Mary Batchelor. He is survived by his daughter Beverly “Bev” O’Neal of Brazil; son John Braden and wife Maggie of West Terre Haute; grandchildren: Heather Hayes (Paul) of Norfolk, VA, Jody Hester (Nick) Hester of St. Charles, MO, Theresa McCain (Charles) of Brazil, and Jimmy O’Neal of Brazil; great grandchildren: Abigail Hester, Nicholas Hester, Chelsea McCain and Dylan McCain as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral InformationServices for John will be at French Funeral Home, March 23, 2012 at 11:00am with Pastor Chris Greg officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery.
