Susie French

Susie FrenchHello, my name is Susie French. I grew up in a small town called West Terre Haute, where I felt safe and cared for by many special people. I counted on the kindness and care of many families as I grew up, each showing me by example what faith and caring for others truly meant.

As a young woman, I began my work career as a registered nurse. I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana State University in 1980. I worked in the ICU department of Union Hospital for approximately 6 and a half years. I loved my work as a nurse, but when our daughter Katie was born, I chose to stay home.

Several years later, I wanted to go back into the work force, but I felt like a different path was being laid for me. Our family had experienced the loss of my father in law that same year. My husband is a well-educated physician, but the loss of his dad was something he could not cope with. Our family experienced a year of dysfunctional grief. It was terrible.

I decided I needed to learn more about this grief response, and how I could make this be better for our family. I enrolled in Vincennes University and began my courses for a degree in mortuary science. I graduated in 1995, and we opened our funeral home in May of 1995. I have always felt like there was Divine Intervention in my life, and the past several years have proved that to me.
