History

French, Lawson-Miller & Schoppenhorst Funeral Home & Crematory has been serving Brazil & Clay City area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

French Funeral Home opened its doors in June of 1995. The funeral home was bought at an auction in 1994 and went through a total remodel and restoration before opening the following year. While under construction, Susan was enrolled in Vincennes University completing her degree in Funeral Service, she graduated in May of 1995. In 2000 we purchased Lawson-Slack Funeral Home and Schoppenhorst Funeral Home. In 2003, we purchased Miller Memorial Chapel. Since, we have combined Lawson-Slack Funeral home with Miller Memorial Chapel, renaming the facility Lawson-Miller Chapel and Crematory. Charles French graduated from Carl Sandburg College, located in Galesburg Illinois, in 2000. Their son, Nick French, received his degree in Funeral Service from Vincennes University in 2005. Nick opened the crematory at the Lawson-Miller location in March of 2009. We currently operate three funeral homes in Clay County and have three funeral directors on staff.
